TWO main trophies were at stake on the last day of the first Mixed Ability Rugby World Tournament at Bradford & Bingley Sports Club.

Ireland's Sundays Well Rebels won the final last night, defeating the Bumble Bees 26-19 in a thriller, and Gaztedi Rugby Taldea, from the Basque Country, rightly lifted the Spirit of Rugby award.

However, there were more than two winners in what was a genuinely uplifting week at Wagon Lane, with the general tenor being onwards and upwards for what was an inspiring mix of handicapped and able-bodied players in a full-contact from of the game.

The visitors from Cork, who eventually received recognition from the Irish RFU, seemed to have victory in the bag when they led 26-5 after tries by Airidas Vaitkus (2), Richard Philpott and Padraig Sisk, with conversions by Steve O'Leary (2) and Jamie Wallace.

However, back came the Bumbles, with Ryan Wilson and Ben Hall adding to the earlier try by Ross McUrich, Lee Hainsworth bagging two conversions.

But they ran out of time, sparking what was probably an all-night Irish bender before their 6am flight today (Saturday) from Leeds-Bradford Airport.

Men of the match were O'Leary and Jamie Healy (Sundays Well) and Hainsworth and Paul Wyatt (Bumble Bees).

Chivasso (Italy) and CLARA Auvergne (France) drew the third and fourth place play-off 7-7.
