BRADFORD Salem have signed former Baildon prop Adam Hewitt from West Park Leeds.

The signing of a player who played for Baildon in both of their Twickenham finals in the RFU Junior Vase in 2012 and 2013 is even more important with doubts over Salem's premier front-rower Simon Davies as they prepare for their return to Yorkshire Division One.

Salem's first-team manager Neil Klenk said: "Simon is going to see an orthopaedic consultant for a scan next week on the knee that was troubling him at the back end of the season.

"He could be out for months if the result goes the wrong way and Adam is an excellent addition and made his debut for us at the weekend in the Skiptens."

Salem defeated fellow Yorkshire Division One side Old Crossleyans 41-7, Skipton B 67-0, Baildon 19-5 and a spirited Wibsey 47-5 before being taken to extra-time by Keighley in the semi-finals, Chris Clough proving their hero with a try, just as he had in forcing extra-time during their Yorkshire Shield final victory over Bridlington in May at Hull Ionians.

Wharfedale then caught Salem cold in the final, leading 14-0 before Ryan Smith got a try.

Salem's pre-season fixtures are at home to West Leeds in the Craig Busby Memorial match on Saturday, August 15 (3.00, veterans), at Roundhegians on Thursday, August 20 (7.00) and at Leeds Modernians on Tuesday, August 25 (7.00) before starting their Shield defence at, who else but Wath, the following Saturday.

Klenk added: "We have played them four years in a row in the Shield and in the first round for three successive years.

"Three years ago we lost away, while we have beaten then at home for the past two years."
