OLD warhorse Dean McNicholl was among the try-scorers as Bradford Salem's second team defeated Wharfedale's Development team 34-10 in the first round of the Spray Plant (UK) Ltd Aire-Wharfe Cup at Shay Lane.

Centre Alex Wood bagged two tries, with others coming from Dave Hutton, Dave Howcroft and the try of the match from Richard Langhorn.

Salem will be at home to Old Otliensians' first team in the quarter-finals, probably next Wednesday (7.15pm) to again dove-tail with Bradford University who ground-share with Salem and are at home to Yarnbury seconds in the Aire-Wharfe Plate first round on the same night (6.45pm).

The students lost their first-round cup tie 55-7 at home to Ilkley Seconds, who will be at home to either Bramley Phoenix or Roundhegians Seconds in the last eight.

Elliott Barker, Nigel Curr and Shaun Everett all scored two tries as Keighley Seconds defeated a Baildon XV that consisted of either veterans or under-17s by 41-0.

Next up for Keighley is a quarter-final at home to Yorkshire Division Three champions Old Grovians, who were given a walkover by Otley Viscounts.

Centre Josh Seal scored a hat-trick for Bradford & Bingley Barbarians but his efforts were in vain as they went down 57-36 against Skipton's first team at Sandylands.

No 8 Dan Cookson and scrum half Sam Jeffrey also crossed for the Bees.
