Bradford Dudley Hill 16 Lock Lane 24

BRADFORD Dudley Hill made a magnificent comeback to draw level, but opponents Lock Lane regained their early composure to inflict a 24-16 defeat on the home side in the National Conference League Division One.

Lock Lane dominated the early proceedings and they scored three tries in the opening 20 minutes.

Dudley Hill found themselves 16-0 down as a result but they dug deep and hit back quickly through a Dave Halley try.

That was converted but the home side still found themselves 10 points behind at the break.

Winger Jamie Brentley touched down in the 49th minute and Simon Sewell's second conversion in succession brought the deficit down to just four points.

Three minutes later, Luke Johnson added a third try, and although Sewell missed his kick this time around, Bradford were now level.

They failed to maintain that momentum though, with a penalty and a breakaway try seeing Lock Lane over the line.

Team manager Steve Wright lamented: "Ultimately we gave ourselves too much to do but we again competed with a side from the right end of the table from last year.

"But there’s only so many times we can keep saying the same things before we will find ourselves in trouble. This week's game against Ince Rose Bridge is going to be absolutely massive for us."

There was a better result for Odsal Sedbergh, as they opened up their Yorkshire Men's League Division Two campaign with a hard fought 24-20 home win against Stainland Stags.

The biggest cheer of the afternoon went to youngster James Stones, who scored his first senior try for the club thanks to a beautiful Josh Briggs offload.

Danny Terry grabbed a couple of tries and Kaine McEwan also crossed the whitewash for a vital score.

James Sharp slotted home four valuable goals as the home side just managed to squeeze past their difficult opponents.

Odsal were due to travel to King Cross Park for a 2:30pm kick off this Saturday, but that game has been postponed and will be rearranged for a later date.
