ENGLAND can expect to face passionate opponents in their next World Cup game, according to Lebanon captain Robbie Farah.

The Cedars made history last Sunday when they beat France to gain their first World Cup win at the fourth attempt to put them within touching distance of a place in the quarter-finals, with three of the four teams from Group A going through to the knockout stages.

"If we win, it's automatic qualification for the next World Cup and a bit of extra money too for the Federation, which helps when you're trying to develop the game," said Farah.

The 33-year-old former Wests Tigers and Australia hooker has returned to his roots after first representing Lebanon in 2002.

Farah said: "This was always about the future of Lebanon rugby league and we've taken a big step forward. Hopefully we've laid the foundation for many years to come."

The Cedars face difficult tests in both remaining group matches, against England on Saturday and Australia a week later.

But they will have the backing of several thousand fans from the large Lebanese community in Sydney at Allianz Stadium and Farah believes they can spring an upset.

He said: "It's a tough draw but sport's a funny thing. I guess on their day, anyone can win a game of footy.

"We've got nothing to lose as no-one is going to give us a chance. We're going to go out there and play with a bit of passion and see where it gets us."

Lebanon are relying almost exclusively on Australia-based players, several of them NRL regulars, but new coach Brad Fittler has insisted his squad demonstrate their passion for the cause.

Farah said: "One of the things Freddie spoke about when he took the job was being able to sing the national anthem.

"All the boys learned it, I had to learn it, driving every morning to South Sydney with repeat on in my car. I learnt it pretty quick."

Fittler has made five changes to the side that beat France, calling up Daniel Abou-Sleiman, Bilal Maarbani, Ray Moujalli and Jamie Clark. Veteran forward Chris Saab is also included after being knocked out in the warm-up last Sunday and missing the match.
