Glenn Barraclough’s hat-trick helped West Bowling A coast to a comprehensive 48-6 win over Odsal Sedbergh A in the opening round of the HUDSON FOSTER SUPPLEMENTARY BRADFORD CUP.
Bowling had the tie in the bag as they built up a 24-0 lead by half-time following tries from Todd Carter, Karl Spring and Barraclough, plus a try and four conversions by Ryan Wilkinson.
Sedbergh stalwart John Exley jinked his way over on the restart, with Luke Dawson adding the extras. But that was only a minor interlude before hooker Barraclough completed his tally.
Reece Salt added a brace and a solo effort from Kyle Moore plus two more Wilkinson goals ensured Bowling’s semi-final berth.
New signing Danny Belcher made a dream debut for holders Wibsey Warriors A in their 64-12 home victory against Wyke A.
Former Clayton full back Belcher made his Premier experience tell against a young Wyke outfit by scoring four tries and nine goals.
Lewis Barrett (2), Paul Cooper, Liam Mitchell, Jimmy Rodger, Gaz Ramsden and Scott Smith also crossed the chalk, with Mark Cumberworth adding a conversion.
The Queensbury A v Victoria Rangers tie fell victim to the weather but Undercliffe Wildboars progressed 42-6 at the expense of Clayton A.
Undercliffe dominated the first half, with half-backs Liam Jarvis and Ryan Dickinson orchestrating the attack to create tries for Gavin Jarvis (2), Paul Cross, Mat Pitman and Kenny Smith to establish a 24-0 interval lead.
Clayton proved more resilient in the second half and opened the scoring through an interception try from the halfway line.
But Undercliffe continued their dominance, with Pitman and Smith both posting second tries.
Paul Cross then gathered the ball on his own ten-metre line and ran 60 metres before feeding Danny Barok, who scored under the sticks.
Meanwhile, West Bowling crashed to a 42-4 defeat at Drighlington in the day’s only Premier Division match of the PENNINE LEAGUE programme.
Bowling restricted the table-toppers to a 14-0 total at the interval but they could only muster a Nathan Marshall solo effort in the second half.
* Clayton are to unveil a plaque on Saturday in the memory of former prop forward Mark Anderson, who died suddenly aged 40 two years ago. The ceremony will take place at the Lidget Green clubhouse at 6pm and Mark’s widow Jane and family would like to invite all the local amateur rugby community to join them in this tribute to the popular player.
