5:50pm Tuesday 6th December 2011 in Pennine League By Jack Strother
Bank Top Harriers’ march towards the DIVISION ONE title continued unabated with a 56-4 win at rock-bottom Dearne Valley Bulldogs after a one-sided Pennine League encounter.
The Harriers had the game in the bag as they racked up a 36-4 lead before the interval and were never in any danger of not returning from South Yorkshire with the spoils.
Centre Finn Lamont (2), wingman Michael Hustler (2), substitute forward Danny Murgatroyd (2), centre Jason Gelder and scrum half Carl Brian led the procession to the whitewash.
Bank Top stand-off Adam Mitchell was also to the fore with a try and eight goals.
Birkenshaw remain hot on the Harriers’ heels in second place following their 32-18 home victory over much-fancied Moorends Thorne Marauders.
The hosts could only manage a Mark Nichols try to trail 6-4 at half-time but a hat-trick by debutant substitute Nathan Kitson transformed matters after the restart.
Liam Darville and Richard Rhodes added to the Birkenshaw tally, with Matt Gowland kicking their goals. Wibsey Warriors gave Queens a fright before going down 16-10 in the PREMIER DIVISION clash at Northfield Road.
The Leeds side had the better of the first half to swap ends 10-0 up but the Warriors roared back strongly with tries from centre Nick Walker and prop Mike Kite, plus a conversion by scrum half Andy Robinson, to ensure a close finish.
Clayton will want to quickly forget their trip to bottom side St Joseph’s, who broke their points duck with a 38-4 romp.
And Queensbury coach Andy Senior was quick to concede that leaders Drighlington were the better all-round team in his side’s 50-6 away defeat.
Queensbury, with seven teenagers in their line-up, posted a single touchdown through Greg Marriott, with Scott Swann adding the extras.
West Bowling A looked poised for a first win in DIVISION TWO as an Aaron Chappell try and Ben Heald goal tied the first half 6-6 at Sharlston Rovers A.
But their hopes were dashed after the restart as the hosts went on to win 22-6.
Undercliffe Wildboars outclassed DIVISION SIX hosts King Cross Park A 44-0.
Jake Butterworth, Justin Hunter, Isaac Brown, Karl Walker, Danny Barok, Kaz Ahmed, Paul Cross and Gavin Jarvis all made the chalk, with full back Kyle Borja posting six goals.
Queensbury B kept up the pressure on the DIVISION SEVEN pacesetters with a 34-16 win at Halifax Irish A.
Daz White (2), Kelvin Daulat, Luke Pearson, Tom Middleton, Marc Driver and Nathan Ridehough registered the seven tries.
But Queensbury’s best players on the day were prop Steve Montgomery and back-rower Luke Barrett.
