Do us a favour, Bowling!

Birkenshaw’s dream of playing in the Pennine League Premier Division next term could rest with Bradford comrades West Bowling A doing them a huge favour by taking the spoils off Elland at Emsleys Rec tomorrow evening (7pm).

Birky hit the straps in style to keep their Division One promotion hopes very much alive with a convincing 38-16 win at Illingworth.

They posted a steady stream of tries in quick succession from Tom Clough, Richard Rhodes, Benoit Rogers, Ben Nabozny, Seth Lambert and Paul Bancroft.

Gary Proctor also crossed and added five conversions.

If, as expected, Birky added another two points to their tally on last night’s trip to Ackworth, an Elland slip at Bowling could see promotion decided on points difference.

Wyke, however, were no match for Elland at Towngate and, despite some powerful sorties from hooker Ian Watkinson plus some old fashioned hard graft from packman James Wild, they could only manage an Ash Hutchinson try in the 46-4 defeat.

Bank Top Harriers signed off with a 42-6 home loss to unbeaten Division Two champions Slaithwaite Saracens, while Victoria Rangers’ troubled season, in which they came rock bottom after shipping over 1,000 points, came to a sad end when they failed to travel to Newsome Panthers.
