CLAYTON have made it two wins from two outings in Pennine League Division Two Central after with a 34-16 victory over fierce rivals Wyke.

Top defence and excellent attacking play secured the all-important bragging rights for Clayton, for whom no fewer than five players made  the try list.

The home side welcomed back captain Jamie Waterman, who marked the occasion with a try, and he was ably assisted by Simon Giles, who helped himself to a brace.

Free-scoring winger Danny Priestley also found his way to the try line again, while Devon Gurney and Steve Scott picked up a touchdown apiece.

The game was even affair in the first half, with Wyke's Coby Kittsen and Calvin Barker punching holes in the Clayton defence.

Tries to second-rowers Ryan Kershaw and Alec Williams allowed the visitors to turn around at the break with only a 16-12 deficit and all to play for.

However, the loss of influential hooker Kitson with a broken nose and jaw subsequently upset Wyke's momentum, and Clayton took full advantage to overpower their rivals and secure a well-earned victory.

Wyke could only register a second-half try to Barker in the end, while Clayton kicker Ryan Wilkinson was on target with five goals.

There was very little to cheer as Queensbury suffered an 82-6 defeat at Oulton Raiders.

The Leeds outfit showed little mercy to Bury, whose indiscipline only served to make matters worse for themselves.

Robson Moore was dismissed on 35 minutes when he had too much to say for himself for the referee's liking, and that was compounded by the subsequent dismissal of John Farr for a blatant punch.

He had scored Bury's solitary try five minutes earlier but his sending-off left Bury with just 11 men.

For the Raiders, try-scorers included former Bradford Bulls Academy player Kieran Walpole and Telegraph & Argus reporter David Jagger, who both bagged hat-tricks.

Overall it was an afternoon that sixth-placed Bury will want to forget as they prepare to welcome leaders Eastmoor Dragons.
