ODSAL Sedbergh’s staying power ensured their safe passage to the Jack Senior Bradford Cup final with a 44-20 success at Birkenshaw Bluedogs.

The 200-plus crowd were treated to a cracking first half of cup rugby that burst into life when Birky wingman Robbie Cass squeezed over in the corner.

Sedge raced the length of the field to hit the front before home stand off Jarrad Toulson produced a clever dummy to reach the chalk, leaving full back Gary Procter to add the extras.

A quick tap and run from packman Ben Cousen kept up the tempo but they could not shake off the visitors who posted another converted effort to see the sides into the sheds at 14-12.

The second half saw Sedge maintain the relentless pace to keep the scoreboard ticking over as Birky wilted – although the Bluedogs' hopes revived when hooker Matt Honysett reached the whitewash for a last hurrah.

Sedbergh, however, stuck to their game management to ensure a comfortable winning margin and book a place in the Odsal final on the April 29.

Bradford Dudley Hill wingman Neil Wall posted a hat-trick in the convincing 42-6 Kingstone Press National Conference home win over Millom.

Hill, who continued their unbeaten Division Two start after racing to a 30-0 half-time lead, ended the match with further tries from Dan Lee, Adam Jefferson, Ben Kelly, Andy Walker and Aiden Batty. Wall (3) and scrum half Simon Sewell (3) added the conversions.

West Bowling opened their Conference Division Three account with a 24-24 draw at Elland.

Bowling second row forward Olly Bartle made the chalk and stand off Harry Williams converted in reply to the hosts' 14-6 half-time advantage. They clawed back the deficit further when hooker Kyle Carter crashed over on the restart.

Wests looked on route for a victory when prop Ryan Patchett and back row forward Gavin Wilkinson reached the whitewash, leaving Williams to make sure of all the extras for a 24-14 lead.

Bowling paid a heavy price for lack of concentration in the last five minutes, which allowed Elland to draw level and nick a point against all the odds.

A last gasp Boothtown Terriers try saw Brighouse Rangers exit the Joseph Fee Halifax Cup at the semi-final stage, losing 32-28.

Scrum half Jamie Barraclough crossed early doors, but full back Karl Frankland missed the simple conversion under the posts to give the hosts a let off.

Tries from wingman Louie Sweeney, packman Matty Bailey and centre Richie McGlade gave Brighouse a two-point lead but with seconds remaining they failed to nullify a simple kick which led to the Terriers touching down for the winner.
