WYKE’S painful Pennine League Division One campaign could well be marked with another defeat when local rivals Brighouse Rangers arrive at Towngate.

The black and whites are sitting next to bottom in the table following a seven-match losing run after a gloomy season of injuries and retirements that began full of promise with a win against Rangers at the beginning of September.

The recent Andrew Bennett Trophy 60-12 defeat was a bitter pill to swallow at the hands of the Brighouse side, who have improved beyond recognition since that initial encounter.

Wyke will field a mixture of experienced veterans and very promising youngsters in a bid to restore their fortunes.

Wingman Mark Frith is always a danger with his speed off the mark and packman Scott Watson improves every time he dons his jersey.

Rangers are at full strength with hooker Troy Ambler calling the shots alongside the highly rated Ben Waud, who is probably the best prop operating in the Pennine League at the moment.

Birkenshaw Bluedogs face a daunting task when they travel to unbeaten Division Three champions Eastmoor Dragons in the first round of the Supplementary Cup.

The Wakefield side have won all 12 of their league games whereas Birky are languishing next to bottom in the table.

The Bluedogs, however, are clearly in a false position and have the firepower in giant centre Damian Smith to pull off a major shock against the trophy favourites.

Props Callum Dinsdale and Paul Turner are back in the pack and stand-off Jarrad Toulson and Matty Honysett also return to a strong looking squad.

The Bradford ARL Cup finals will be held as normal at Odsal Stadium on Saturday, April 29, following agreement with the new Bradford Bulls.

The finalists of the Jack Senior Memorial Cup will be decided on March 11 when Queensbury host Wibsey Warriors, with Birkenshaw also at home to Odsal Sedbergh on that date.

The losing semi-finalists will also go forward to contest the final of the Hudson Foster Supplementary Cup, which will be a curtain raiser to the main event.
