Queensbury 34 Selby Warriors 4

WINGER Aiden Hainsworth allowed the chance of a two-try haul to slip through his fingers as Queensbury coasted to an impressive home win against Selby in Division Four of the Pennine League.

Queensbury opened the scoring early on when Chris Hanson offloaded to Joe Hall, who sprinted under the sticks and left Robson Moore to slot over the extras.

They doubled the tally within minutes as Joel Charlton popped a smart ball to Cameron Parry, who broke through the Selby line and scored under the posts. Moore once again put away the conversion.

The buoyant hosts had the bit firmly between their teeth and struck again just before the interval when a quick passing move along the line saw Tom Hart produce an angled run over the whitewash. Moore made it three out of three with the boot to see his side change ends 18-0 up.

Hainsworth celebrated his return from injury in style when taking a cut-out pass and side-stepping the full-back before outpacing the sliding defence to touch down in the corner.

Yet he was perhaps a little too cocky for his own good when he sprinted over the chalk again soon afterwards but decided to attempt a touchdown under the uprights, allowing the visiting defence to hold him up and prevent what would have been a second fine effort.

Parry produced another barnstorming run by breaking the desperate clutches of the Selby rearguard and Alix Stephenson added the extra two points this time.

To their credit, the third-bottom Warriors refused to throw in the towel and posted a touchdown when they breached the solid Queensbury defence with three back-to-back penalties.

The home side crowned a good afternoon's work when the influential Hanson outjumped the defence to collect the ball and squeeze over in the corner.

Stephenson slotted over a splendid touchline conversion to seal an impressive victory that left his side third in the table.
