CLAYTON got their Pennine League campaign in Division Two off to a winning start with a superb 34-22 victory at Hanging Heaton.

Despite conceding an early try, Clayton soon hit back with a Simon Giles effort. The visitors didn't look back after that and always had the edge over the Dewsbury outfit.

Giles helped himself to a second try while Phil Redgrave also picked up a brace. Other scorers for Clayton were Mason Gurney and Joe Armitage. Dane Bairstow was on target with five conversions.

Queensbury's second game of the season in Division Four ended in a 32-12 defeat at the hands of Swillington.

Bury started off the game well but let Swillington have it their own way come the end. Tries from Gareth Crowther, Brett Marriott and Dane Manton were not enough to ultimately give Bury the points.

In Division Three, Birkenshaw fought out a thriller at Wakefield side Eastmoor Dragons but were narrowly beaten 30-25 in their first outing of the season.

Queensbury's Yorkshire Men's League season came to an end in the semi-final of the play-offs to a rampant Batley Boys outfit 52-6.

Ashley Ryan-Reid was the only Bury player to cross the whitewash.

However, West Bowling booked their place in the final with an excellent 36-14 victory over Beverley.

Prop Chris Anderson opened up Bowling's account and fellow forward Jack Milburn added his contribution when he crashed over.

Full back Liam Darville helped himself to a neat try and, with further scores coming from Max Trueman, Richard Limb and Liam Coe, Bowling ran out worthy winners. Coe also added a goal while Harry Williams hit the target with four attempts.

Bowling take on Doncaster Toll Bar in the final on Saturday at Featherstone Rovers ground, kick off 3pm. Entry is £3, U16s are free.
