TWO of the longest-serving stalwarts of the Bradford Amateur Rugby League community have been awarded life membership of the association.

The recognition was announced during the Bradford ARL annual general meeting held at Clayton Rugby Club.

David 'Nipper' Garside and Billy Barraclough were presented with mementos to mark the occasion by president Norman Hudson as they celebrated nearly 100 years' service in total to their respective clubs.

Garside began his career at West Bowling in the 1960s and had a baptism of fire, playing in a 9-9 Bradford Cup final draw against Wyke in an era when hookers actually had to strike for the ball.

He has served Bowling in almost every capacity possible and played a major role in the club's successful admission to the National Conference League.

Barraclough has the Wyke club in his DNA. A formidable prop in his playing days, he went on to become secretary and his drive and determination has seen the black and whites firmly established in the village.

The new dressing room accommodation and the thriving junior production line of well-coached players is a record of his many achievements.
