CLAYTON meet Bradford Victoria Rangers in the Jack Senior Memorial Cup final shoot-out at the Provident Odsal Stadium tomorrow (3.30pm) in what is now recognised as one of the top events on the amateur game calendar.

The opportunity to take the field at one of the most famous grounds in rugby league is a dream ambition for many local players and this season's finalists have all the credentials to make the contest an absolute belter.

Clayton must start out as favourites after seeing off last year's runners-up Queensbury, who were odds on to take the trophy when they knocked holders West Bowling out early doors.

The Villagers, who have enjoyed a successful Pennine League Division Three West campaign, pose a huge threat through centre Ryan Wilkinson's deadly goal-kicking accuracy and the guile and industry of hooker Phil Redgrave.

Player coach Scott Pendlebury, the former England Lionhearts captain, is now a revered hero at the club and is bound to play a massive part in the proceedings.

Vics will be battle-hardened after a tough season in the very strong Division One. They are well-drilled by coach John Hodgson and play a very clever, expansive kicking game led by loose forward Luke Harps. Stand-off Elliot Hodgson has electrifying pace and there will be added spice in the hooking department, with the Rangers number nine Sam Thornton also in great nick.

The Hudson Foster Supplementary Cup final curtain-raiser between Queensbury A and Wyke A whets the appetite for things to come, starting at 1.30pm. Wyke make a welcome return to Odsal for the first time in decades. The black and whites have a collective mix of youth and experience, with old-timer Simon Owen still their top tackler while teenage wingman Liam Whomack is the latest product of the family dynasty that has served the club for three generations.

Holders Queensbury A regard the trophy as personal property and do not count the word 'defeat' in their vocabulary. The ability of full back Billy Naylor to join the line at crucial moments, plus the organisational skills of stand-off Callum Murgatroyd, will be their main thrust, while the clash between their vastly knowledgeable prop Andrew Senior and Owen, who were team-mates at West Bowling, will be worth the admission price alone.
