CONTINUING wet weather is causing concern to those involved with the Pennine League.

West Bowling, who have only played three Premier Division fixtures in the six-team division, are still on song to finish at the end of May.

But Bradford neighbours Queensbury are under pressure, with only three games completed in an 18-game Championship Division list.

The lower divisions have managed more games but the long-term prospects are dismal, due to the majority of local pitches needing time to recover.

The league stuttered back into action at the weekend after the holiday break, with only two matches beating the extreme weather.

With their Towngate ground under water, Wyke swapped their Division Two home fixture to Eastmoor Dragons.

The black and whites fielded a bevy of talented youngsters from their progressive youth academy against the Wakefield outfit, who contained a large contingent of performers with National Conference experience.

Eastmoor put two early touchdowns on the board but Wyke stuck to the task, with forwards Ian Wormald and Marc Goodwin the leading lights, to close the half at 10-0 down.

The Bradford side then dominated in the second stanza and Wormald opened their tally with a trademark angled run for a splendid converted effort.

The appearance of Gary Worley from the bench added a new dimension to the attack, resulting in Brett Grey sprinting over in the corner.

However, Eastmoor introduced fresh legs to post a brace of late tries to snatch a 26-10 win that failed to reflect the true nature of the contest.

Wyke coach Warren Pitman praised his charges, saying: "I couldn't ask for any more from the 17 lads that took the field.

"We have a lot of juniors who are stepping into the first team earlier than I would have liked.

"However, they are giving a really good account of themselves and are a credit to both themselves and their coaches."

Meanwhile, Victoria Rangers' sterling efforts to get their Eccleshill Sports club pitch fit for action went unrewarded.

They suffered a 14-4 Division One defeat to Sharlston Rovers to leave Vics in fourth place, still in touch with the leading pack.
