NEW-LOOK Pennine League Championship table-toppers Odsal Sedbergh are aiming to continue their unbeaten start to the season when Allerton Bywater arrive at the Odsal Rec.

Sedge will have six new players on show and a very significant ground advantage which could prove to be a bridge too far for the Castleford-based visitors.

Coach Gary Priestley confidently declared: “We have Robert and Oliver Priestley plus Shaquille Jones on top form in the defence, together with good running from new boys Ryan McNulty and Dan Brown.

“Paul Bottomley is revelling after being handed the captain’s armband and the whole squad is buzzing at the moment.”

Queensbury, the only club in the Pennine League to field three open age sides, are also confident about the prospect of progressing into the second round of the Presidents Cup against New Earswick All Blacks at Hill Top.

Bury visited the York side in a pre-season friendly that ended all-square but it will be a totally different encounter this time as big guns Dan Hawksworth and Andy Walker return to the fray.

Ash Ryan and Mick Boocock are unavailable but it is the ominous figure of packman Tom Hainsworth that will dominate the pre-match planning.

He scored six tries in Bury’s last outing in the Yorkshire Cup success against Ossett Trinity, a rare occurrence for a forward at any level of the game.

Victoria Rangers travel to new boys Mirfield Stags who are coached by Super League referee Richard Silverwood.

West Bowling face a tricky visit to Three Tuns, of Hull, in the first round of the BARLA Yorkshire Cup.

Wests have not been firing on all cylinders so far this term but if their half-back pairing of Ben Heald and Max Trueman reproduce the form of last season they should go through in style.

Wyke are hopeful that half-back Duane Platt and teenage hooker Coby Kitson are back in harness after recovering from injury for the Division Two trip to Greetland All Rounders.

The black and whites are on form at present with new-boy Gavin Mezals to the fore.

The former Dudley Hill and Birkenshaw favourite is excelling in the centre berth and the pack, led by the vastly-experienced Shaun Godfrey, is dominating proceedings up front.
