WEST Bowling secured their place in the next round of the Barla Yorkshire Cup thanks to a hard fought 40-28 win at Batley Boys.

Bowling opened the scoring when James Crabb collected a neat kick to touchdown, however Batley quickly hit back with a try of their own.

The game became somewhat scrappy but on the half hour mark a break by Chris Curtain found Max Trueman in support who dived over. Ben Heald added the conversion to make it 6-10.

Bowling then suffered a sucker punch just on the half-time hooter to find themselves behind 12-10.

Bowling came out fired up for the second half and two quick tries saw them take the lead as first Richard Lumb slid over before Heald raced in to score.

Bowling didn't have it all their own way but further tries to Crabb (2) and Jake Green sees them now face a forthcoming derby at Hull side Three Tuns.

Odsal Sedbergh find themselves sat proudly at the top of the Pennine League Championship table following a first ever away win at West Leeds.

Sedge deserved the 24-35 victory and had man of the match Dan Brown to thank with a brace on his debut, ably assisted with tries courtesy of Scott Smith, Oli Priestley, Ben Cousens and Paul Bottomley.

Wyke secured the bragging rights after defeating local rivals Queensbury 'A' 24-4 in round one of the Andrew Bennet Memorial Trophy.

In a tough and physical derby encounter Wyke forwards John Vachicilious and veteran Simon Owen were at the forefront of the main exchanges.

Wyke's tries came from Ian Wormald, Gav Mezals (2), Brett Grey and Tevin Campbell, whilst Shaun Godfrey picked up the man of the match award for a tireless display.

West Bowling 'A' also took their place in round two after a solid 36-18 win at Odsal Sedbergh 'A'.

Mathew Hines stole the show with his five tries whilst Harry Williams kicked four goals. The try scorers for Sedge were Robert Booth, Jonny Ward and Harry Lund.
