WEST Bowling take on Batley Boys tomorrow in the preliminary round of the BARLA Yorkshire Cup.

A lengthy run is always good for confidence – and Bowling will also be looking to put last week's league defeat by Doncaster Toll Bar firmly behind them.

Richard Lumb picked up the man of the match award at Toll Bar with an outstanding display but was pushed closely by Danny Halmshaw and both will be out to impress again.

In wingers James Crabb and Karl Spring, coach Glenn Barraclough knows Bowling have the attacking potential that can win any game.

Batley Boys are in the Championship Division, just a rung below Barraclough's men, and will certainly be no pushovers.

Ross Walker is added to the Bowling squad, while the recently-injured Ashley Hutchinson faces a late fitness test.

"We've been working on our fluidity and patience with the ball this week to improve our game but Batley Boys will provide a stiff test," said Barraclough.

Queensbury are also in Yorkshire Cup action, facing Ossett Trinity Tigers in round one.

The Tigers have recently set up their own fines system for any player on the receiving end of a penalty, sin-bin or sending off, so Queensbury can expect the Ossett outfit to be on their best behaviour when the whistle blows.

Queensbury coach Greg Worthington has the big advantage of being on home soil, as well as holding a higher Pennine League status than the visitors.

However, Worthington – formerly of Huddersfield Giants and Featherstone Rovers – will also be well aware that the cup can be a great leveller.
