WEST Bowling resume their Pennine League Premier Division campaign on Saturday when leaders Sharlston Rovers arrive at Emsleys Rec.

Bowling have slipped into third spot in what is a troubled competition that has only six clubs screaming for fixtures with half of the season still to play.

Wests, who have returned to the top tier with aplomb, will fancy their chances of causing an upset against the mighty Rovers, who were recently knocked out of the BARLA Yorkshire Cup at the semi-final stage.

Coach Glenn Barraclough has introduced a terrific work rate in the team and the half-back partnership between Max Trueman and Ben Heald will supply the ammunition for any possible success. The return of prop forward Ash Hutchinson from a knee injury will also add beef to the pack.

Queensbury play their first home game of the reconstructed programme against Upton. The Pontefract visitors gained promotion last season and are proving to be a very difficult side to beat.

Bury, however, will recollect the two close tussles they had against them last term and they are convinced they are in a false position at the foot of the division after playing a measly three games. They now have a full squad available after the holiday break and are intent on making a move up the table.

Odsal Sedbergh are on the hunt to break their duck in the Championship at fellow basement dwellers King Cross Park, while Wibsey Warriors' recent Division Two revival will be tested at Hunslet Club Parkside.

The hosts, who previously operated under the banner of Hunslet Old Boys, are set to play in the summer NCL Third Division and, while the Pennine side is virtually a second string, they are still a class act.

Wyke will be attempting to kick-start the new year with a win over visitors West Craven Warriors at Towngate. The black and whites' home advantage should prove the difference in the bottom-of-the-table clash which was further boosted by news that their long injury list has been cleared.

In Division Three, Queensbury A should have a significant edge at Crigglestone All Blacks and Division Four West Bowling A also face a stern encounter at high-flying Sherburn Bears.

The highly entertaining Division Six West sees top dogs Victoria Rangers looking to keep their momentum going at Cowling Harlequins and Odsal Sedbergh A have similar hopes when King Cross A visit Odsal Rec. Wyke A travel to dark horses Illingworth A, while Queensbury B face a hard trip to Meltham All Blacks.
