WEST Bowling's march up the Premier Division table continued with a colossal 30-16 Pennine League win at Upton.

The Bradford club's defence was severely tested in the opening exchanges before stand-off Max Trueman spotted a gap to race over, leaving half-back partner Ben Heald to add the extras.

Three-quarter Sam Dunn added to the total on the 20-minute mark and Heald made sure of full reward to shock the hosts, who regard their home ground as a citadel.

However, Upton regrouped and managed to reduce the arrears with a converted try to close the half at 12-6 down.

Bowling expected that a comeback was on the cards in the second stanza and were proved correct as the Pontefract outfit hit back in determined style to establish a 16-12 lead.

But a quick chat behind the posts from coach Glenn Barraclough got the game-plan back on course and the pack, led by Joe Lumb and Nathaniel Light, established dominance at the ruck.

A lightning strike down the right flank led to good hands from Trueman and centre Gus Marshall sent wingman Chris Curtain in at the corner.

This was quickly followed by a quality effort – started by prop Chris Anderson, who punched a hole in the defence and off-loaded one-handed to the supporting Marshall. He reached the chalk, giving Heald the chance to add his fourth kick for a 24-16 margin.

Bowling's superior fitness and commitment was then unmistakable as packman Olly Bartle and Richard Lumb created the opening for Heald to collect a Trueman pass to make the whitewash and keep his goal-kicking record intact for a personal 14-point haul in a tremendous team performance.

Meanwhile, Queensbury went down to a 40-6 defeat at Fryston Warriors.

Queensbury gave as good as they got for the first half-hour and were always a threat thanks to the kicking game of Josh Naylor, who probed and tested the home defence.

Fryston managed two converted tries just before the break and then the visitors shot themselves in the foot with a dreadful start to the second half that saw them concede another three tries, giving the Warriors a stranglehold.

Queensbury got on the scoreboard on the hour when forward Joe Walker put Joe Flanagan under the posts, while Charlie Gallagher strived hard to claim his side's man of the match award.

Wyke progressed to the second round of the Andrew Bennett Memorial Trophy with a 32-16 win at Littleborough.

Full back Tim Stones led the way with a brace of tries, aided by additional efforts from Ian Wormald, Jordon Payton, Corby Kitson and a belter from talisman Simon Owen, who side-stepped the full back to cross under the uprights.

Victoria Rangers A's aspirations in the Supplementary Cup came to an end with a 38-10 loss at Ovenden.

Ben Quirk claimed two touchdowns for the Vics and Hayden Sugden added the goal.

Queensbury's third string picked up their second Division Six West win of the season as they defeated visitors Greetland All Rounders A 28-20.

The star of the show was full back Stu Rubery, who scored two tries and kicked four goals. Rory Brooke also got over, along with exciting prospects Chris Helm and Rick Daly.
