VICTORIA Rangers completed a Pennine League double over Siddal with a close-run 24-20 Division One victory in Halifax.

The Vics hit their straps early doors when man of the match, centre Damian Smith, crossed, soon followed by second-row forward Luke Harps, who sold an outrageous dummy to leave the hosts totally bemused.

Stand-off Josh Hattie added all the extras before Siddal responded with a converted try. But Rangers hooker Isaac Brown kept the momentum rolling when he found the whitewash, leaving Hattie to ensure full reward.

The hosts refused to be shaken off, scoring just before the break to leave the Vics 18-10 up.

The second stanza then started badly for the visitors when loose forward Craig Morley left the fray with a damaged wrist, prop Ash Yarrow quickly joining him in the dugout due to a twisted ankle.

A dubious home touchdown, following a clear knock on, added to Rangers' misfortune before the irrepressible Hattie broke clear to race in, also injuring his ankle in the process.

Aiden Scully added the conversion, leaving the Vics a torrid last ten minutes to negotiate.

Siddal's pressure told and they managed to post a valuable six-pointer but it was too late to prevent gallant Rangers from returning home with the spoils.

West Bowling A could only muster a try from teenage wingman Matthew Hines in their 32-4 home defeat to Eastmoor Dragons in Division Four.

Wyke were awarded their first points of the season when Littleborough failed to show at Towngate.

Victoria Rangers A keep top spot in Division Six West following a 14-8 home win over Wyke A.

The Vics were in the driving seat 10-0 at the break after tries from wingman Mikey Cunliffe and prop Alex Scott, who was making a welcome return following a three-month lay-off with a shoulder injury.

Wyke hit back with two unconverted touchdowns before Vics substitute Joe Bell, playing against his former team-mates, made the game safe.

Odsal Sedbergh A also experienced success with a 25-20 derby triumph over visitors Clayton A.

Sedge looked to be heading for defeat when they fell 20-6 behind at the break to a Clayton second string propping up the entire Pennine competitions.

But a second-half improvement steadied the ship to edge the match thanks, in the main, to stand off Shaun Flynn, who collected a try to go alongside his five conversions and a drop goal.
