SKIPPER Richard Lumb produced a stunning late try to ensure West Bowling a 28-22 victory against Queens in the Pennine League Premier Division clash of the day at Emsley's Rec.

Bowling, who entered the fray below strength following a number of late withdrawals, soon found themselves 10-0 down against the Leeds side.

But after a change of game-plan, they exploited a distinct lack of mobility in the Queens pack for stand-off Max Trueman to spot a gap for a touchdown that was converted by scrum half Ben Heald.

The visitors frustrated the more speedy Bowling outfit by laying on in the tackle – but they suffered the consequences when the ball was quickly shipped wide, allowing centre Gus Marshall to level the scores at 10-10 by the interval.

Bowling's superior agility was again to the fore on the restart when full back Karl Robinson glided through to the chalk.

And a similar build-up gave wingman Karl Spring ample space to finish from 40 metres shortly afterwards, both of which were converted by Heald for a 22-10 lead.

The visitors hit back in style to notch a couple of converted touchdowns – one of which was disputed by West's packman Jack Milburn, who promptly received the yellow card for dissent.

Although a man down, Bowling's superior fitness was evident in the closing stages, forming the platform for second-row forward Lumb to charge onto a short ball and outpace all-comers in a 30-metre dash to the whitewash for the winner.

Elsewhere, Queensbury gained little joy on their travels to Sharlston Rovers.

Queensbury, who were forced to make a number of changes, were well in the hunt when they trailed 12-4 at the break, following a try in the corner from Dan Clark.

But Sharlston stepped up a gear in the second stanza and the scoreboard rattled on apace.

Queensbury did produce a moment of class when prop Andy Senior broke the line to put fellow packman Tom Hainsworth under the posts. But the final 50-10 tally fully emphasised Rovers' superiority.

Wibsey Warriors posted a 46-6 home win over Littleborough in Division Two.

The Warriors, with head coach Jason Hirst at the helm, were 28-0 to the good at half-time, putting the game beyond reach.

Touchdowns came from Mike Batty (2), Scott Watson (2), Angus Parkin, Matt Cumby, Dom Kilburn, Paul Jennings and Ross Simpson, Cumby slotting five conversions.

Victoria Rangers A won 72-0 at Queensbury B in Division Six West. Centre Joe Bell helped himself to four tries and half-back Craig Dalladay posted a hat-trick.
