WEST Bowling coach Glenn Barraclough is marking Saturday's PREMIER DIVISION visit to Fryston Warriors as the day when his youngsters came of age, despite the lop-sided 40-22 scoreline in favour of the Castleford hosts.

Bowling turned up with a positive mindset against a Fryston outfit who regard themselves as virtually invincible on home soil.

Wests were ten points down early doors before good ball movement saw centre Adam Reardon reach the chalk, leaving Ben Heald to add the extras to claw back the deficit.

The vastly experienced Warriors looked to be out of sight when they established a 28-6 lead. Bowling decided to throw caution to the wind with a series of attacking plays that saw hooker Joe Lumb and second-row forward Ollie Bartle cross the whitewash in quick succession.

Fryston edged further in front but Wests refused to go away as stand-off Max Trueman collected a loose pass to evade the home defence, which was soon followed by a cracker from James Crabb, who showed a clean pair of heels to reduce the tally to 34-22 with seven minutes left.

The Warriors then posted the last try of the match for a winning margin that did not fully reflect the valiant efforts of Barraclough’s boys on the day.

Victoria Rangers had to battle hard to overcome DIVISION ONE visitors Lindley Swifts 30-22.

The Vics changed ends level at 10-10 following touchdowns from hooker Isaac Brown and centre Damian Smith together with a solo extra from stand-off Aiden Scully.

Wingman Carl McGuigan was over for a converted try from the restart and prop Luke Harp added a drop goal but the Swifts were soon back on level terms at 18-18.

Brown then collected his brace before debutant former Keighley Cougar player Jordan Aitcheson crossed and Scully landed his fourth goal to make the game safe.

Wyke full back Tim Stones scored all their points in the 13-8 DIVISION TWO home defeat against Shaw Cross Sharks while West Bowling A could only muster a try from forward Ben Cousen in the 66-6 home loss at the hands of DIVISION FOUR leaders Crofton Tigers.

Victoria Rangers A ensured a double celebration for the club by winning 36-0 at Greetland All Rounders.

Vics keep top spot in DIVISION SIX WEST thanks to touchdowns from Rob Stones 2, Sam Thornton 2, Jordan Walker, Johnny Fawthrop and Jamie Kerr.
