CLAYTON continued their welcome Pennine League revival with a well-earned 24-18 win at Division Three basement dwellers Kinsley Raiders.

The Villagers, who were on the brink of going out of existence last term, have clearly turned the corner thanks to the return of some old heads and a clutch of promising youngsters making their mark at senior level.

Clayton were in full flow during a bright opening that saw Matt Baldwin, Scott Pendlebury and James Flanagan reach the whitewash. Ryan Wilkinson slotted over two of the conversions for a healthy 16-0 interval lead.

There was a significant wobble on the restart when the Raiders fought back to lead 18-16. But Clayton held their nerve to post a brace of tries from Jamie Waterman and Chris Illingworth that clinched the spoils.

West Bowling debutant centre Gus Marshall made his presence tell by scoring a cracking hat-trick of tries in his side's 49-6 Championship Division success against Bentley Good Companions at Emsley's Rec.

Bowling, who had the game in the bag when leading 20-6 at the break, went on to register a nine-try total.

Further efforts came from Karl Spring, Adam Redfearn, Max Trueman, Chris Anderson, Richard Lumb and Joe Lumb.

Scrum half Ben Heald, whose partnership with stand-off Trueman called all the shots, added six conversions and a drop goal.

Queensbury slipped to their first Championship defeat as they were edged out 26-24 at New Earswick All Blacks.

The Bradford side only had themselves to blame for the setback after establishing a healthy 18-8 half-time advantage following two touchdowns by packman Joe Walker together with a try and three extras from winger Scott Swann.

When hooker Jonjo Naylor scooted over on the restart to establish a 16-point cushion, it looked all over bar the shouting. But the York hosts had other ideas and staged a unyielding comeback to nick the points.

Championship One Division strugglers Odsal Sedbergh suffered a narrow 24-18 home defeat to leaders Doncaster Toll Bar.

Sedge pushed the table-toppers all the way, with Aiden Batty (2), Sam Hall and Josh Tordoff reaching the whitewash.

The Odsal second team also lost as they bowed out of the Pennine Supplementary Cup 34-14 at Allerton Bywater in the first round. Robert Booth, Johnny Ward and Karl Read were the visiting scorers.

Wyke's woes continued with a 48-10 loss at fellow strugglers Littleborough in Division Two.

The black and whites, who are still marooned at the foot of the table, could only muster consolation efforts from Steve Richardson and Duane Platt.

Victoria Rangers A lost for the first time in Division Six West as Meltham All Blacks logged a 20-10 home win.

The Rangers points came from hooker Jay Dalladay and full back Jamie Kerr, with Hayden Sugden landing one conversion.
