QUEENSBURY were unable to progress to the second round of the BARLA Yorkshire Cup after a 20-12 defeat at Dewsbury Moor.

The Queensbury team were hampered by the late withdrawal of a number of key players and early injuries to Gregg Marriott and Tom Hainsworth compounded matters.

Even so, the visitors fought hard and deservedly opened the scoring when hooker Charlie Gallagher darted over, Scott Swann adding the extras.

Queensbury quickly extended their lead when hooker Jonjo Naylor dived over under the posts, Swann again converting. But the second half belonged to Dewsbury as they ran in 20 unanswered points.

In the Pennine League, Odsal Sedbergh were beaten 54-6 by Batley Boys in Championship Division One.

Robert Priestley collected Sedge's solitary effort, leaving them still looking for their first points of the season.

But Victoria Rangers saw off a spirited challenge from Ossett Trinity to win their Division One encounter 18-12.

Winger Carl McGuigan helped himself to a brace of tries, while Gavin Mezals and Aidan Scully picked up one apiece.

Prop Scott Butler was man of the match for his hard-working display.

In Division Two, Wibsey Warriors pulled off a startling 24-12 victory at Greetland All Rounders.

The Warriors only just managed to field a team as even coach Nick Walker had to take to the field.

An Andrew Lloyd try and a Nathan Marchant effort saw the Warriors in at half-time at 12-12/

But the visitors took control playing downhill in the second half, with tries for Steve Redman and man of the match Walker sealing an unlikely victory. Redman also landed four conversions.

Clayton secured their second win of the season in Division Three, beating Crigglestone All Blacks 30-14.

The villagers led 12-8 at half-time thanks to tries from Luke Pullan and Ryan Wilkinson, both converted by Dane Bairstow.

Second-half scores went to veteran Scott Pendlebury and captain Jamie Waterman, with Pullan adding his second of the afternoon.

Victoria Rangers A edged out Boothtown Terriers A 32-28 in an enthralling Division Six West encounter.

Scorers for Vics were Mark Christy (2), Ryan Khan, Robert Stones and Jonny Fawthrop.

Odsal Sedbergh A were defeated 34-14 by Illingworth A, the tries for Sedge coming from Jonny Ward, John Adams and Robert Booth.
