WYKE Amateur Rugby League Club marked the official opening of their new changing rooms with a junior tournament.

The newly-installed facilities at Wyke Recreation Ground make a refreshing change to the World War Two air raid shelter players had been changing in since 1948.

The club obtained over £200,000 in funding from both Sport England and the Biffa Award, a group which gives funding from landfill tax credits.

The club had been looking for funding and permission for new buildings for more than 20 years.

Bulls player Oliver Roberts awarded all the teams with a special commemorative medal from the occasion and then cut the ribbon as Wyke’s Facility Manager Bob Willan announced that the new shed was officially open.
