ADAM Brook is hoping to make a success out of his loan at Cougars and is open to the prospect of staying beyond his initial one-month spell.

The Bradford scrum half is regarded highly at Odsal but has yet to make a senior first-team appearance for the club.

With Lee Gaskell and Danny Addy the first-choice half-back pairing for the Bulls, a number of fringe players have headed out on loan.

Brook himself recently enjoyed a month-long stint at Oxford but he is delighted to have found a club closer to home and could make his bow for Cougars in Sunday’s trip to Barrow.

The 20-year-old from Halifax, who was 18th man in last weekend’s 32-24 home win over Oldham, has been a stand-out player for the Bulls' academy side in the past couple of seasons.

He said: “It’s not something I’ve spoken about, but I’m assuming that if it goes well and both clubs are happy for me to stay then hopefully it will be something which can continue.

“No disrespect to Oxford because I really enjoyed the four games I played there, but Keighley are at the top end of the table so the standard is higher.

“The northern teams tend to have the edge over the southern teams in League One at the moment.

“The Keighley-Oldham game was a lot quicker and higher standard than the previous games I’ve seen in the division this season.

“I spoke to Marchy (head coach Paul March) and some of the other lads and they said that promotion at the end of the year was the goal.

“I don’t think they will accept anything less than that and you can see with the way they are going this season.

“They have obviously got confidence in themselves and they have certainly got a good squad.

“Hopefully I can benefit from that and the club can benefit from having me there.

“With it being more local, it’s easier for Jimmy Lowes to speak to the coaching staff at Keighley and more convenient all round.”

Brook began training with Cougars last week and met fans and club directors at the Oldham game.

He was already acquainted with a number of his new team-mates, adding: “I know Scott Law because he played in the same amateur team as I did and our dads are good mates.

“I know all three Sheriffe brothers and Jesse, who my dad coaches, played down at King Cross a couple of years ago.

“My dad played with Jode at Halifax Irish a couple of years back and I know Liam Darville from when we played together in the academy at Bradford.

“I’m friends with quite a lot of the lads down there.”

Darville and Paul Handforth lined up in the halves against Oldham but an injury to Jesse Sheriffe saw a reshuffle which saw Darville switched to full back.

Brook, who is contracted to the Bulls until the end of 2016, said: “Keighley are a lot more professional and experienced than other teams at this level and Marchy has been around in the game for years and played in Super League.

“I’ve got friends who play at Featherstone and they are part-time.

“From what I’ve heard, there doesn’t seem much difference between Fev and Keighley. I’ve not played since May 13 so I’m raring to go and will hopefully be involved against Barrow on Sunday.”
