Sugden bags first win of season
The latest rounds of the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia saw Tim Sugden record his first win of 2008 and follow that with a second place in his GruppeM Porsche in Shanghai.
The Bradford racer, who looked set for victory in the opening round of the season until a puncture dramatically robbed him of the win, was delighted to have his title defence back on track.
He said: "It's pretty much impossible to recover from a DNF (did not finish) in this series. All I can do is try and win, so I'm delighted by this."
In the first race, Sugden had qualified only third in a wet session, with the team still setting up the car after changes.
But he took the lead in the first corner as Germany's Christian Menzel, Hong Kong's Daryll O'Young and Sugden all went through together.
The Yorkshireman established a small lead but Menzel came back at him and there followed a close race with the lead changing hands more than once before Sugden claimed his third win at Shanghai Grand Prix circuit.
Race two saw him on pole and he built a lead until an incident down the field brought out the pace car and Menzel, running second, was able to get right back on Sugden's tail.
With just two laps to go the German took the lead, leaving Sugden to finish a close second.
The Porsche Carrera Cup Asia continues in June at Southern China's Zhuhai International Circuit, with rounds five and six to be held as part of the Pan Delta Super Racing Festival from June 20-22.
