Sugden is crowned champion
Bradford's Tim Sugden clinched the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia Championship in the final meeting of the season in Macau.
The GruppeM GT3 Porsche driver won the title by 14 points from Japanese opponent Kieta Sawa and Australian Christian Jones, who was a further two points behind.
Sugden has never raced on any street circuit before and so decided that discretion was the order of the day, qualifying in sixth on the grid.
Jones was just two points behind Sugden in the title race and was two places in front of him when he lost control on the penultimate lap and put the car into the barrier.
It meant the Bradford racer was able to cruise home to clinch a championship he has led for most of the season,
taking fourth place in the event.
He finished with nine podium places in 13 races, including six wins and never failed to finish and score.
He said: "Winning both races in Shanghai (where the series was a support event to the Formula One Sinopec Chinese Grand Prix) was definitely a high point of the year. The whole Macau event is so
special and it's a great honour to be here."
The triumph was the fourth GT title for Sugden, who was only the second British driver to win the prestigious Porsche Cup in 2005.
