Mixed emotions for Short

Phil Short won his class for the 13th time this season but it was not enough to improve on fifth place in the Longton's Northern Speed Championship, which came to an end at Three Sisters.

The Ilkley driver, last year's overall champion, was in a close tussle covering second to sixth place, the title having already been won by Bolton's Mark Wallwork in his Ford Sierra Cosworth.

But with all the contenders winning their relative classes, Short was unable to make up ground in his Mod Prod Mini.

Finishing ahead of him in third place was Burley Woodhead youngster Simon Green, who has impressed during his first attempt at the north's premier speed championship. Henry Moorhouse from Leeds was sixth.

Meanwhile, Short faces a busy month ahead with his BP-Ford WR Team as they pursue world rally titles for both drivers (with Marcus Gronholm) and manufacturers in the Catalunya, Corsica and Japan Rallies.
