Final flourish eludes Evans
Gareth Evans finished a creditable joint 11th in the prestigious Lytham Trophy but he felt he could have done better.
The Northcliffe member's third-round 69 was the only under-par score and left him lying in sixth place.
But a final-round 76 saw him slip down the leaderboard,
having earlier opened up with scores of 70 and 77.
He said: "I felt that if I could shoot a 68 in the last round I would be in with a chance but I had a couple of early bogeys and then double-bogeyed the 17th after getting stuck in two bunkers."
But Evans was pleased with his overall performance in
conditions that were wet and windy for much of the time.
"I'm not far away and my
putting was really good," he added. "It's just about patience."
Rochester & Cobham player Matthew Haines won the event by a shot from Dale Whitnell.
Evans is in action for Yorkshire in a league match against Northumberland at Morpeth this weekend.
