Matthew Buggs Nostell as Liversedge triumph
7:40pm Sunday 7th October 2012 in Thackley By Ian Whiting
Thackley skipper Bruce Tiani scored the stoppage-time goal that sealed their victory
A late fightback from Nostell MW fell short of denying Liversedge victory as they bugged their hosts and earned a much-needed Baris Northern Counties East League victory.
Sedge had hat-trick hero Matthew Bugg to thank as he scored all their goals in a 3-2 win that saw the Spen side hold onto their 12th place in the Premier Division.
Bugg struck in the 39th minute to give the visitors a slender half-time lead.
He also added another two inside a nine-minute second-half spell to give Sedge what looked like an unassailable lead.
However, Nostell hit back through Mitch Pearson and Glen O’Gara to make it a very nervy last four minutes for Eric Gilchrist’s men.
Neighbours Thackley also won away as they returned from Parkgate with all the points after a 2-0 victory.
The Dennyboys had a handful of good opportunities and a strong penalty appeal turned down in the goalless first half.
They remained patient though, and Jordan Missin broke the deadlock in the 72nd minute with a lofted effort from the right flank and skipper Brice Tiani added just into stoppage time.
Both of the local clubs in Division One went down to 1-0 defeats.
Eccleshill United were beaten at home by promotion hopefuls Pontefract Collieries.
Eagles director of football Mark Ellis said: “It was not the best start for Dai (Jones, caretaker manager) but we had a very young side out and there were a lot of positives.”
Albion Sports suffered at Knaresborough Town with the only goal of the game coming from a well- placed free-kick by former Leeds United man Seb Carole.
