Mallinson strike wins it for Thackley

Thackley held on to seventh spot after a narrow 1-0 victory at home over struggling Pickering Town.

It was a scrappy game, not helped by the conditions, but there were spells of decent football from both sides.

The Dennboys created what few chances there were, with Nicky Matthews and Matt Hall at the sharp end of things.

However, it was John Mallinson who won it for them when his 74th-minute long-range lob deceived Pickering keeper Arron Reid.

There was one moment of pure class five minutes from time when the Dennyboys’ Mark Bett hit a screamer of a shot.

It was worthy of a goal but Reid denied him with a superb diving save.

The victory kept Thackley just ahead of Long Eaton on 21 points.
