Keeper Tom Taylor heads Brighouse Town's equaliser
5:00pm Sunday 9th September 2012 in Thackley By Ian Whiting
New signing Jordan Missin, right, missed a chance to put Thackley 3-1 ahead
Brighouse Town's keeper Tom Taylor was their hero as they snatched a draw from the jaws of defeat at Glasshoughton Welfare.
The shot-stopper headed an equaliser five minutes into injury time in their Baris Northern Counties East League Premier Division match. The home side had taken the lead through Liam Ratford midway through the first half of the 1-1 stalemate.
Nevertheless, there was nothing much to write home about for four of the local clubs in league action yesterday, with two draws and two defeats between them.
Thackley twice took the lead as they were held 2-2 at Long Eaton United but new signing Jordan Missin squandered a late chance to win it.
The Dennyboys had seen a strike chalked off when Nicky Matthews netted only to see an offside flag, but the striker did break the deadlock seven minutes into first-half stoppage time.
Danny Gordon equalised early in the second half before Brice Tiani restored the visitors’ lead.
Substitute Missin was unfortunate not to add a third Thackley goal with a rare miss and then the home side were awarded a penalty which Michael Armstrong stroked home.
Liversedge slipped to a 2-1 home defeat as Barton Town Old Boys claimed all three points.
After a goalless first half, Barton’s Ashley Lattimore opened the scoring with a free-kick minutes after the restart and a Richard Medcalf penalty made it 2-0 before Sedge’s Matthew Bugg grabbed a late consolation.
Silsden were beaten 3-0 at AFC Blackpool in the North West Counties League Premier Division. Following a goalless first half, Marc Beattie gave the home side a 51st-minute lead, Martin Baird and Ryan Stayte adding efforts later.
