TEN-MAN Eccleshill United salvaged a point at the death in a 2-2 draw at home to lowly Brigg Town in Division One of the Toolstation Northern Counties East League.

Jonny Irving was on the end of a last-gasp free-kick to head past the Zebras’ keeper Paddy Shaw.

The visitors had taken the lead on the half-hour when Jonny Nicholls netted after a free-kick from the halfway line wasn’t dealt with by the home defence.

Former St Kitts and Nevis international Zeph Thomas levelled soon after with his first goal for the Eagles.

The Zebras regained the lead just before the hour-mark when Eagles keeper Dom Smith could only parry a fierce shot and Cameron Hill pounced.

Eccleshill’s Chris Lever picked up a second yellow card in the 71st minute but the home side still had Brigg under a lot of pressure late on and a draw was a fair result.

The Eagles remain in second place ahead of tomorrow night's clash at home to Yorkshire Amateur as they look to secure the second automatic promotion place .

Neighbours Campion are also due in action at Emley tomorrow. They are nine points off the play-off places after succumbing to a sucker punch at Armthorpe Welfare last night.

The black and reds had taken a ninth-minute lead through Danny Cunningham but just as they looked set to bank all three points their Doncaster hosts plundered an equaliser two minutes into time added on.

Substitute Gragjan Klimczak beat Campion keeper Daniel Armitage right at the death.

Thackley suffered a defeat at Staveley MW in the top tier in a game of two halves. The Dennyboys dominated before the break and took a 1-0 lead into the interval courtesy of Nicky Matthews’ excellent volley following a 33rd minute corner.

The home side put in a gritty second-half display and turned the game with two goals in an eight-minute spell just after the hour-mark. Joe Pugh levelled before Tyla Bell hit the winning goal.

Brighouse Town remain second from bottom in the Evo-Stik Division One North but they picked up a significant win.

Town were reduced to ten men before the half hour mark at home against Mossley when left back Callum Hall was shown a straight red card but Vill Powell’s men defended well and snatched the victory with a late winner.

Centre back James Hurtley was in the area as Isaac Marriot delivered an 82nd minute corner and, as the visitors’ keeper punched out, Hurtley lashed the ball back past him.

Brighouse are now just one point from 19th place and 10 points above basement boys Goole AFC with five games remaining.
