ANDY Patterson says he can fully understand the club’s supporters who want their side to get going this term.

The Dennyboys are 14th the Toolstation Northern Counties East Premier Division and the assistant manager insists that everybody on the playing and coaching side is working hard to turn things around.

This time last season Thackley were second in the table. Patterson admitted: "Confidence is a bit lower than we want but that’s only to be expected with what’s happening.

“Where the frustration comes is the inconsistency, like a week last Wednesday in the derby game at Albion Sports.

"We’d had a great result against Pickering Town, who are up there challenging for the title, we beat them 4-2 and it was a good performance.

“We were thinking that it had built the confidence up and we could kick on, but we got a kick in the teeth.

"We were dreadful against Albion, lost 3-0 after some individual errors and our heads were down again.

“The ugly side of our game keeps rearing its head and I’ll say it – there have been some very worrying signs.”

Thackley were thrashed 8-0 at home by leaders Pontefract Collieries in the earlier this month, which was a humbling experience.

The Dennyboys have picked up just four points in October from five games, ahead of today’s trip to Rainworth MW, but did progress in the West Riding County Cup thanks to a penalty shoot-out win over Glasshoughton Welfare.

Patterson added: “We should have been a couple of goals up early on against Glasshoughton and although the game didn’t finish as we would have liked (penalties) it was a cup tie so it was all about the win.

“Then in the Pickering game we could have been 3-0 down before we got our chances, it just doesn’t follow. Ponte was a low point and another game like that is no good for anyone.

“I think they’re (Ponte) in with a good chance of winning the league though. They are very good at what they do, they’re well managed, organised and are a big side with a physical presence.”
