Pre-season friendly: Glossop North End 0 Farsley Celtic 1

FARSLEY Celtic had to be patient in their penultimate pre-season friendly last night but Adam Lakeland’s men got the win they deserved, courtesy of a second-half Paul Walker strike.

The Celts’ Adam Porritt and Adam Clayton, twice, had gone close for the visitors in the goalless first half before the deadlock was broken seven minutes after the break.

Walker sent in a shot that took a deflection on its way past the home keeper and, although there were chances for both sides in the latter stages, Farsley were good value for their win.

There was even a cameo appearance for assistant manager Mark Bett, the former Bradford Park Avenue, Guiseley and Celts striker replacing Walker seven minutes from time.

Farsley’s pre-season ends on Saturday with a trip Mossley, who are league rivals of Glossop in Evo-Stik Division One North, the division Farsley gained promotion from last season.

Elsewhere, Thackley were 3-1 winners at Steeton in what was the Dennyboys’ final warm-up game.

Luke Robinson fired them in front in the first minute, and Dan Broadbent doubled the lead for Chris Reape's side midway through the second half before the home side hit back when Andy Holden netted a spot-kick.

Broadbent restored the Dennyboy’s two-goal advantage when he bagged his brace ten minutes from time.

Liversedge also won away from home against a club from a local league as they beat Huddersfield Amateurs 3-2.

Sedge broke the deadlock early but were pegged back before racing into a 3-1 half-time lead.

Jonathon Rimmington’s side also confirmed the signing of former Guiseley Academy striker Devonte Morton yesterday.
