THACKLEY have organised a second Legends Day for this Sunday after the success of the initial one two years ago.

The club’s committee organised the first when the very existence of Thackley FC was threatened.

They asked former players and managers to turn out on the Dennyfield turf once again in front of as many long-term supporters and interested locals as possible as they looked to raise money to ensure the club could continue at the heart of the community.

Secretary and spokesman Stewart Willingham said: "Following the success of the previous Thackley Legends Day in November 2014, the club has decided to repeat the event.

“It will take place on Sunday, November 6, and, as before, it will consist of a number of age-related matches of 15 minutes each way (starting at 1pm), followed by copious amounts of reminiscing and drinking in the clubhouse.”

This gathering, unlike the last one, is purely down to popular demand.

The last was out of necessity after a previous administration had allowed the club to spiral into a seemingly black hole of debt.

Willingham added: “Thankfully I can confirm that the financial troubles that the club found itself in are over.

"We are looking forward now and everyone has been asking us to stage another Legends Day, so we have.

“The first one was a great night – I can’t believe that it’s so long ago. Time has just flown by but we can go over all that on Sunday, hopefully with as many former players, coaches, volunteers and supporters as we did last time. We’re all looking forward to it.”
