THE equation for Brighouse Town in the Evo-Stik League on Saturday is simple – win their game at mid-table Prescot Cables and they will stay top of the Evo-Stik Division One North irrespective of nearest challengers Farsley Celtic’s result.

The Celts are at home and they face a tough task against sixth-placed Lancaster City.

Last season’s corresponding game ended goalless and Lancaster held Farsley to a 2-2 draw in the reverse fixture.

Farsley are three points behind Brighouse but have a game in hand and a better goal difference after conceding just three league goals so far.

Brighouse will hope to bounce back from last weekend’s FA Trophy exit with an away win at Prescot who have the second worst defensive record in the league.

The area’s sides are also in the frame at the top of the Toolstation Northern Counties East League with Liversedge sitting at the top of the Premier Division and Thackley, who entertain AFC Mansfield, nicely placed in third spot.

Sedge missed a chance to open up a four-point lead when they suffered a surprise 2-1 home defeat to Bridlington Town in midweek. and manager Jonathan Rimmington will want his side to bounce back when they visit Hemsworth MW.

Former Bradford Park Avenue manager Wayne Benn guided Hemsworth to the Division One title last season.

Eccleshill United and Campion will be aiming to keep the pressure on the clubs in the Division One play-off places as they both face sides in the bottom six. The Eagles visit Worsbrough Bridge Athletic while Campion host Teversal.

Silsden also have home advantage this weekend as they welcome newcomers FC Oswestry Town in the North West Counties Division One. When the sides met earlier in the season they drew 6-6 so the spectators will be hoping for another feast of goals.
