FARSLEY CELTIC marched through to the first qualifying round of the FA Trophy but BRIGHOUSE TOWN are out after losing their preliminary-round tie.

The Celts won 3-1 at Radcliffe Borough but it was far from straightforward as the hosts were the better side in the first half, although Ross Daly hit the bar.

Alex Davidson got the scoreboard ticking, converting Paul Walker’s low ball into the area, but the hosts hit back almost immediately through Jacques Kpohomouh. However, within two minutes Davison had claimed his second.

Substitute Jacob Hazel had the ball in the net but was flagged offside and Lewis Nightingale hit a post before Richard Marshall put the gloss on the win late on.

Brighouse lost at Evo-Stik Division One South high-fliers Witton Albion but the 5-2 scoreline didn’t reflect the game, a Rob Hopley hat-trick massaging the figures.

Ruben Jerome headed in from a free-kick between Hopley’s first two as the sides went into the break at 2-1. Hopley completed his treble, and further goals from Tolani Omotola and Tom Owens put the host through before Town grabbed a consolation via Ben Atkinson.

LIVERSEDGE consolidated their leadership of the Toolstation Northern Counties East League in emphatic style as they spanked Garforth Town for six, but the game was goalless at the break.

A Joe Walton hat-trick, plus Steve Wales, Harrison Blakey and Jansiah Donaldson, did the damage.

Cleethorpes Town kept within a point of Sedge as they beat ALBION SPORTS 4-2 at Throstle Nest. Marc Cooper was the visitors’ hat-trick hero, and Peter Winn netted their fourth from the spot. Karl Hall scored both Albion’s goals, one of his also coming from the spot as they lost each half 2-1.

The defeat saw Albion drop a place to fifth but THACKLEY remain third after a 4-0 win at Athersley Recreation, all the goals coming in the second half.

Tom Robinson broke the deadlock two minutes after the interval, and George Eustance bagged a brace before Dan Broadbent netted.

In Division One, ECCLESHILL UNITED battled to a 1-0 win over second-placed visitors Knaresborough Town, Luke Harrop grabbing the goal, while CAMPION held leaders Penistone Church to a 1-1 draw away from home, so there is now just a two-point gap between the leaders and eighth-placed Eccleshill.
