The Emirates FA Cup prelimiary-round replay: Brighouse Town 4 Glossop North End 2

BRIGHOUSE Town marched through to the first qualifying round with a victory in an incident-packed replay at the Dual Seal Stadium last night.

Three red cards were shown and both sides were awarded penalties as Town ended the game with ten men, while the visitors finished with nine and a stand-in keeper.

Glossop were first to be reduced in numbers as Matthew Burke received his marching orders in only the seventh minute.

The second dismissal led to the game’s first spot-kick as Town’s Lee Spires, whose goal sparked Brighouse’s comeback from two goals down in the initial meeting, was penalised.

Jamie Rainford, who began the scoring in Saturday’s 2-2 stalemate, saw his penalty kick saved by home keeper Tom Taylor but he slammed in the rebound.

Town levelled midway through the first half when Ben Atkinson headed home a Steve Mallory cross.

Glossop took the lead for a second time two minutes later through Max Leonard but a sensational James Pollard free-kick three minutes before the break saw the teams going into the interval all-square.

The real turning point came just minutes into the second half as Glossop’s keeper Ben Chapman was sent off following a clash with Luke Parkin.

Ben Richardson donned the gloves, and his first job was to face the resulting penalty, Parkin netting from the spot.

Just before the hour, Fernando Moke rounded two defenders before lifting the ball over Richardson to complete Town’s victory.

Brighouse’s reward is a home tie against Evo-Stik League Division One North rivals Lancaster City a week on Saturday.

There could be a lot of movement at the higher end of the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division tonight with all three of the area’s representatives in action.

Liversedge are the highest of the trio in the early table because of goals scored but they face the hardest game of the three.

Jon Rimmington’s third-placed side travel to second-placed Handsworth Parramore.

Sedge enjoyed an away win at the weekend to take their points total to six but they have played a game more than tonight’s hosts as Handsworth were progressing in the FA Cup last Saturday with a 4-1 home win over Stocksbridge Park Steels.

Thackley are right on the coat-tails of Sedge but have also played three games.

The Dennyboys’ visitors are Maltby Main, who banked their first points at the weekend with a 3-0 win at Armthorpe Welfare.

Albion Sports are hoping to extend their 100 per cent start when they travel to Rainworth Miners' Welfare.

Kulwinder Sandhu’s Lions have won both of their opening fixtures and could end the evening above both of their local rivals if they win and the other two don’t take maximum points.
