THACKLEY are planning to take a trip down memory lane next Saturday.

The committee have organised a get together with their current squad and staff and all their former players, managers and coaches after the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division home game with Nostell MW.

Club secretary Stewart Willingham said: “We want the present players and back room team to have a great night and we want to see the former players from all eras back at the club again to join in.

“We arranged it for a day that the first team are at home and we hope, after all the recent bad weather that we get a good game on the pitch followed by a cracking night in the clubhouse afterwards. I hope it’s like old times.”

Willingham admits that in their current position they don’t have too much to celebrate. However, he is also mindful of the time when he and his colleagues, who had all retired from the committee, came back to rescue the club.

The Dennyboys are currently on an even keel and now that the frantic bailing out is over. they are looking to sail to calmer waters. They are not on a luxury cruise but there is no threat of the electricity being cut off or the bailiffs confiscating the goal posts.

Willingham said, “We are doing pretty well at the moment, in terms of where we were 18 months ago. So we thought we would have a bit of a get together and embrace the fact that the club’s still here, at the heart of the community in Thackley.

“It should be a very good night with Gary Stokes providing the entertainment. Gary’s brilliant at things like this and he’s an ex-player of ours.”

Former goalkeeper Stokes was a player and coach at Dennyfield and is currently goalkeeping coach at Farsley Celtic, but he is just as well renowned for his performances and comparing skills.
