MARK Bower saw his GUISELEY side break their hoodoo at Barrow when a stunning free-kick from Nicky Boshell in first-half stoppage time earned them a 1-1 draw in the National League.

The 25-yard curler was worthy of at least a share of the spoils and it ended a run of three 1-0 defeats at the Furness Building Society Stadium.

The home side opened the scoring in the 37th minute. Guiseley keeper Steve Drench did well to parry a header from a dangerous cross but Jason Walker tucked the loose ball in.

In the second half Boshell went close with a chip just over the bar before Walker responded with a controlled lob that landed on the roof of Drench’s net.

The home side had a good spell after that but there were chances at both ends in a very nervy ending.

BRADFORD PARK AVENUE are looking for their first win of the season tonight when they play their second home game of the National League North campaign but they will have their work cut out as AFC Fylde are the visitors.

Fylde were runners-up last season only to miss out on promotion via the play-offs but Avenue would leapfrog them with a win. Bradford boss Martin Drury is pleased with the efforts from his players and feels they are beginning to gel. He said: “I feel it is all clicking into place even though we haven’t had the results we would expect or need.

“The performances have deserved more and the players are still very positive in training and in the games. They want to put things right and get the first win of the season, and I don’t think it’s too far away.”

ALBION SPORTS also face an important game as they host Ashington in an FA Cup extra-preliminary round replay after a controversial 2-2 draw in the north east on Saturday.

In other action last night, FARSLEY CELTIC were beaten 1-0 at Scarborough Athletic in the Evo-Stik Division One North, while LIVERSEDGE earned a point from a 0-0 draw against Handsworth Parramore.

THACKLEY were beaten 2-1 at home by Bridlington Town in the Toolstation Northern Counties East Premier Division, while ECCLESHILL UNITED lost 4-0 at Hemsworth MW in Division One.
