THE fixture computer has done Thackley no favours at a time when the club has its back against the wall.

The problems off the field have been well documented with financial difficulties even threatening the club’s existence.

Their Dennyfield ground is situated on the edge of Buck Woods, but the club s far from out of the woods in its fight for survival.

Their committee members, many from the old guard who stepped back from active duties to hand the club on several years ago, are working tirelessly to rectify the situation but admit that Thackley is leading a hand to mouth existence.

Now they face another battle in their quest to keep the club afloat over the coming holiday period.

Christmas and New Year is traditionally a busy time for football clubs but there will be no festive cheers heard around Dennyfield or ringing of the turnstiles and tills this holiday season.

There are an odd number of clubs in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division so that leaves one of the teams without a fixture every Saturday.

That club will be Thackley on both December 20 and 27 when most of the grounds attract more fans.

The Dennyboys have just one home fixture in December, next Saturday when they host Armthorpe Welfare. The next one after that is on January 10.

It is understood that the club contacted the NCEL to ask for its assistance over the matter but, as yet, no rescheduling of games has been offered.

No one was available for comment from the club. They may be wary of repercussions having once been fined for voicing perceived criticism of the league.
