THACKLEY are staging a fund-raising match that will pit the current team against former players, many of them from the best Dennyboys squad in recent memory.

It has been no secret that the club have experienced severe financial difficulties but insiders feel that the immediate future has been secured.

That leaves them looking forward and planning ahead to ensure that they never experience such worrying times again. However, the coffers are empty and they are still limping along.

Mark Senior, who recently returned to the club in a director of football role, has announced the formation of a former players group to organise events, games and to raise money for the club.

He has contacted former team-mates and other ex-players of the club to stage a match on Sunday, November 2.

The late stalwart volunteer Emily Balding will be remembered, with her name being on the trophy that the teams will play for.

Recent players who are now at other clubs, like Farsley’s Ross Daly and Albion Sports’ keeper Aaron Brian, will be joined by former crowd favourites Ian Briggs, Stuart Waite and Senior himself.

There are several former players he has no contact details for and he has issued a plea for them to contact him or the club.

He is still searching for former skipper Craig Sugden, Andy Sutcliffe, Paul Newsome, Darren Hamer and Richard Wilson among others.

Supporters and wannabe Thackley stars can also get involved as they will be allowed to play alongside the club legends for a certain donation to the cause.
