THACKLEY manager Andy Patterson found himself in goal as his under-strength team headed to Maltby Main in the Northern Counties East League – and it cost them dearly.

The Dennyboys lost 3-1 after taking the lead and the boss did not cover himself in glory.

Mike Garrod rattled the bar early on but the deadlock was not broken until just after the half-hour mark when Danny Lyness put the visitors ahead.

It had been a good half for Thackley but Maltby snatched an equaliser just minutes before the break.

A ball into the area from the right flank had Patterson and Adrian Mower at sixes and sevens and the defender turned it past his own keeper.

The hosts were strong after the break and they turned the game on its head with two goals in just over a minute around the hour mark.

Liam Royals sent in a shot that Patterson parried but failed to keep out and Anthony Mackie netted a shot across the face of goal.

It was a similar tale for Liversedge, who were beaten 2-1 at home by Parkgate.

Sedge were looking for their first point of the season but suffered an early blow when Craig Fletcher put the visitors in front in the second minute.

The Clayborners eventually levelled through Andy Wood in the 74th minute but parity lasted less than a minute as Danny Abdulla soon netted Parkgate's winner.

The defeat leaves Sedge second from bottom in the Premier Division.

Eccleshill United did get their first point of the campaign in Division One but it was from a home draw against Winterton Rangers, who were rock-bottom before the game.

The Eagles looked strong early on and were denied by the woodwork but the visitors bounced back and Luke Anderson opened the scoring midway through the first half.

Eccleshill reached the break on level terms after Jackson Patillo netted following a 36th-minute corner.

Both sides had chances in the early stages of the second half and the Eagles had the ball in the net, only for celebrations to be cut short by an offside flag.

The point apiece lifted both clubs out of the bottom two – above two clubs yet to register a point and Teversal, who have a minus-11 goal difference.
