Thackley’s grip on the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Cup ended when the holders were beaten 4-1 at Heanor Town.

The Dennyboys took a first-half lead in last night’s third-round tie through Chris Davey but were knocked out by four second-half goals.

Brighouse Town’s home tie in the same round kicked off late following a delay and it went long into the night as the sides could not be separated after extra-time.

Following a goalless first half, Town took the lead through Will Tolley. They came back to level at 2-2 after going 2-1 down in the first half of the extra period. James Hurtley scored the equaliser but Long Eaton United won the marathon penalty shoot-out 10-9.

Silsden were beaten 1-0 at Runcorn Linnets in the North West Counties Premier Division. Matthew Atherton headed the game's only goal early in the second half.
