Schofield on to skipper number five!

It may have been a blessing in disguise that Silsden did not win any silverware this season because there may have been a gaggle of players jostling to pick it up.

Injury, suspension and unavailability has hampered first-team chief Paul Schofield and last weekend's defeat at Runcorn Linnets highlighted the extent of the problem.

Four players, all who have captained the club this season, were unavailable. Goalkeeper Martin Foulger, who had taken part in the London Marathon to raise money for MS, was unfit after his exploits. Club captain Martin Bland, James Nettleton and Michael Rhodes were also missing, which meant selecting a fifth skipper of the campaign.

"It's been a nightmare but the lads on the pitch are all leaders," said Schofield.

"I know I can rely on any one of them when the others are out. I have pushed them and put upon them over the season just to be sure I knew they were 100 percent reliable. They didn't let me, the club or themselves down.

"Michael is the youngest of them but even he is like a veteran at the side of some of the lads who have broken into the team this season.

"The trouble is they come in, play well and then they are needed back in the under-19s side and we lose them again."
