Chattoe hopes to inspire on the pitch too

Silsden assistant manager Richard Chattoe is continuing to enjoy his role at Cougar Park and is now looking forward to next season after settling in.

The former Bradford Park Avenue and Guiseley midfielder has been in place since the week before Christmas and is keen to extend his coaching career, having been player-coach at both his previous clubs.

"I'm enjoying it more and more the longer I'm here, as this is a great club with a sound infrastructure," said Chattoe.

"I have been impressed with every aspect so far - the first team, the overall ambition and the youth development. That is what I want to help most with. It's my area, given my background."

Chattoe played for Histon, among other clubs, in his native south and spent most of his playing career in the Conference or UniBond top tier and equivalent divisions nationwide. He is a school teacher and highly-qualified coach.

He said: "The young lads who have come through into the first team here at Silsden have all been very capable.

"There are several more on the verge of breaking into the squad and I've seen them playing for our under-19s and the youth teams below that age group.

"I just wish I was fit enough to get into the centre of midfield and bring them on while playing alongside them.

"There is nothing better than being right at the side of them and even leading by example.

"If it was two or three years ago I would be in there but I'm just not match fit. I hope to get a few games in before the end of the season, as I'm not finished just yet.

"Maybe I will be able to play regularly in pre-season and offer a bit of guidance and inspiration on the pitch to the lads who will be regular starters next season."

Great news for Silsden if Richard is to stay for next season. A very inspirational character on and off the pitch and a great help, not only to the up-and-coming youngsters, but alos the more senior of the players.
